Better Than Sex Cake
OK, it's not really, but if you need a chocolate fix this is it! I know that this is a pretty well known recipe and that there are many versions, but this is my favorite one. Besides anything that calls for loads of chocolate and a can of sweetened condensed milk is worthy of my blog!
Better Than Sex Cake
1 box chocolate cake mix (+ whatever it calls for on the back)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 jar hot fudge sauce
1-8 oz container of cool whip
4 Skor* Bars, crushed (or Heath Bar)
Make and bake cake according to box directions in a 9x13 in pan. As soon as it comes out of the oven, poke holes with the handle of a wooden spoon all over the cake. Pour sweetened condensed milk over the top. Let cool completely. Next spread fudge over the cake, and put in the fridge to set. When it is cool, spread coolwhip over the top and then top with crushed score bars. Refrigerate leftovers. I like this cake better the next day as the cake gets more moist.
* Sorry if this was confusing to some of you! Apparently I totally spell this candy bar wrong and some people didn't know what in the heck I was talking about!

I have had this before and in my mind there has GOT to be something better than COOL WHIP for the topping. It is just glorified air in my book and not worthy to sit on this cake. The CAKE is great but I think as a whole it could be better.
ReplyDeleteCJ, maybe equal parts heavy whipping cream and cream cheese? it's my go-to easy icing. i just throw in my mixer until it gets nice and fluffy. sometimes i'll put a bag of pudding mix in to give it some more flavor if necessary.
ReplyDeleteI love the cool whip. Everything else is so rich that the lightness of the cool whip adds something to it.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely! The cool whip is perfect on this cake. It would be way too rich with a heavy icing.

DeleteI make a similar cake with butterfingers sprinkled on top. After poking holes in the top of the hot cake, I pour a jar of caramel syrup (ice cream topping) on top. Then cool whip, then crushed butterfingers. It is amazing. Everyone loves this cake and begs for the recipe. I love it because it is so simple!

ReplyDeleteSuper Wal-Mart sells Milk Chocolate Heath Bits in a bag (baking isle).... I buy them and keep them in the freezer to make our version of this!

When I took this to a girls weekend trip I made it like always and then kept it cool in a cooler. That way I didn't have to take the things with me and have to finish it up there.
DeleteI would definitely put it on before serving. If it is cold enough it would probably be fine to travel with it all assembled but it won't change the taste at all to just add it before serving. Enjoy and safe travels!

DeleteI use sweetened condensed milk and butterscotch ice cream topping, along with the Heath bars. So good and gooey.

ReplyDelete9x13 for sure since you have to poke holes in the top and let the sweetened condensed milk soak into it. I think the layers would fall apart when you tried to layer them.

ReplyDeleteI make this as a trifle, but soak the cake in a cup of kahlua over night, then layer crumbled cake ,chocolate mousse, cool whip and crumbled heath bars till you get to the top .it is to die for and people are always requesting me to make it :) very rich tho

ReplyDeleteA better topping than cool whip is the whipped icing that Wilton sells in a box. You mix it with chilled water. Awesome on this cake.

ReplyDeleteInstead of hot fudge I use caramel and I use devil's food cake! Do not be stingy with the sweetened condensed milk or caramel/hot fudge! This tastes even better the next day, or in cupcakes!!!!!

For alternate topping: once cake is done & condensed milk added; top w/ mini marshmallows & put back in oven to melt marshmallows.

Mix together 6 tablespoons melted butter, 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/4 cup milk, and 2-2 1/2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (more or less depending how thin you like your glaze... just not too thin.)
When marshmallows have melted just to "lightly golden brown" remove cake from oven and pour glaze immediately over melted marshmallows & spread to blend the glaze with the marshmallows... then, top with Skor, Butterfinger, pecans, etc. whatever "crunch" you want on top.
This same topping can be used on brownies as well... it is SO rich & yummy!
I only just saw this. I was wondering what is the alternative for hot fudge as I don't think I can get that here in Dubai.
